Smooth Breasted Sebastopol Geese

Smooth breasted is a feather type, not a colour. A smooth breasted Sebastopol has a flat, smooth breast with the long spiralling feathers confined to the back, wings and tail. A curly breasted bird carries curled feathers over the breast as well. Both are Sebastopols and both occur in the same hatches.

Availability. We are running smooth breasted birds now. Numbers and ages change through the season, so tell us what you are after and we will say what is on the ground. Adults are on the geese page, with juveniles, goslings and hatching eggs alongside.

Order Smooth Breasted Geese

This is the distinction that confuses new buyers most, because both types are sold as Sebastopols and both are correct. The American Poultry Association standard calls for the smooth breasted type, so if showing matters to you, that is the one to ask for.

Feather type cuts across every colour on this site. You can have a smooth breasted lavender, a curly breasted grey, or any other combination. Colour and feather type are inherited separately, so asking a breeder about one tells you nothing about the other.

As for how many of each you get from a given pairing, the honest answer is that it depends on what the parents carry rather than on any fixed ratio. Be wary of anyone quoting you a confident percentage without knowing their own birds. The breeding guide covers this properly.
