Buff Sebastopol Geese

Buff is grey diluted toward warm rather than cool. A buff Sebastopol has a fawn or tan head and neck over a cream body, carrying the same scalloped feather structure a grey does but in a warmer shade.

Availability. We are running buff birds now. Numbers and ages change through the season, so tell us what you are after and we will say what is on the ground. Adults are on the geese page, with juveniles, goslings and hatching eggs alongside.

Buff

Buff reads very differently depending on the weather. In full sun it can look almost cream, and on an overcast day the fawn in the neck comes forward considerably. If you are judging a bird from a photograph, ask what time of day it was taken.

The colour buff is most often confused with is lilac, which is buff's own dilute and lands a shade paler and pinker. In strong light the two can be very hard to separate, which is one reason lilac birds are so often sold as buff and the reverse. Compared with grey the difference is easier: grey is cool and brown-toned, buff is warm and tan.

Buff also appears as a base for the saddleback pattern, giving a buff saddleback: fawn over the neck and back with a white body beneath.

Other Colours

Compare against Lavender, Grey, Saddleback, White, Blue, or read the full colors guide which covers all of them side by side with a colour chart.

We are not running blue, lilac, splash at the moment. Those pages explain the colours and what we would suggest instead.

Before ordering, the care guide covers what these birds need, shipping explains how they travel, and the FAQ answers cost, noise and temperament. Buying to breed? Read breeding and sexing.
