Lilac Sebastopol Geese

Lilac is generally described as the dilute of buff, the way lavender is the dilute of grey. The result is a very pale, pinkish grey bird and one of the scarcer colours in the breed.

Lilac is easy to mistake for a washed out buff in strong sun, and the two are regularly swapped in listings. The distinguishing feature is the pink cast: a lilac reads pinkish grey where a buff reads warm tan.

Because it sits two dilutions away from the ancestral grey, lilac needs both parents to carry the right genetics, which is most of why so few birds exist. It is one of the two or three colours people genuinely wait years for.
